The world s largest operator, China Mobile, has awarded ZTE a contract to build an IMS core network on which it can run converged fixed and mobile services

China Mobile has given ZTE a contract to build a core network using IMS IP Multimedia Subsystem so that it can offer converged fixed and mobile services on 1.4 million lines.

Services, to be launched within three months, will be focused on business users, said ZTE, which is collaborating with China Mobile, the world s biggest mobile operator, on their development.

The network will enable China Mobile to launch a range of fixed/mobile services such as converged centrex, converged one number, multimedia colour ring-back tone and converged conferencing.

Wang Xiaoqiang, ZTE s vice president of core network, said the deal marks a brand-new beginning of strategic cooperation in the next generation core network field between China Mobile and ZTE .

China Mobile offers fixed as well as mobile services following its takeover of China Tietong (China Railcom) in 2008 as part of the government of China s reorganisation of the country s operators.

Our innovative and complete IMS solution helps China Mobile to provide cutting-edge converged services, expanding its business especially in enterprise market space, said Wang. Deploying an IMS-based network will allow the operator to deliver fixed voice and multimedia services to individual and enterprise users over IMS and to build an IMS-based fixed and mobile convergence network.
