Buoyed by strong growth of its India operations, China-based telecom equipment and network solutions provider ZTE is now planning more investments in its research and design (R&D) centre.

We plan to invest up to Rs. 200 crore in the R&D centre in Bangalore in the current financial year, while we have already invested a similar amount during the past four-and-a-half years. And if the government policies are favourable, we will further scale up our investments in India, ZTE India Chairman and Managing Director D. K. Ghosh told journalists here.

About the company's growth, Mr. Ghosh said the company achieved a record performance in the last fiscal despite a challenging economic environment. We registered 50 per cent increase in our sales. We currently enjoy over 75 per cent market share for NGN (next generation) products and are also the market leaders in CDMA category. Additionally, ZTE experienced large-scale growth coming from the GSM space in India, he said.

Mr. Ghosh also said ZTE was keen on participating in the growth of 3G and WiMAX network in which it was a global leader. ZTE is also planning to recruit 1,000 employees in India this year.
