Lu Yongxiang, president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), attended the fourth World Science Forum (WSF) held in Budapest on 5 7 November 2009 and delivered a speech on scientific innovation towards 2050.

The speech Innovation: towards 2050 gave analysis on main challenges and trends of world s science and technology in the future and put out a blueprint for the privileged development of S&T till 2050.
The World Science Forum, organised by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in partnership with UNESCO and International Council for Science (ICSU), focused on Knowledge and Future this year and looked toward a strategic vision of the future of science in the global society of the 21st century.
About 500 representatives from more than 30 countries and areas presented the forum; some were from Europe, U.S.A., China, Brazil, India and Japan.
A special book of interviews with some of world s top scientists was published before the forum in honour of the tenth anniversary of WSF. The exclusive interview of Professor Lu Yongxiang was included in the book, 12 Scientists on the 21st Century .
