Zhang Xiaotie, deputy general manager of China Mobile, has been named an outside director of electronics conglomerate China Electronics Technology Group Corp (CETC), Caing.com reported Tuesday.
The State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council has informed China Mobile of the appointment, which has to go through procedures before the company issues a formal statement, the report said.
Zhang, 58, has more than 30 years of management experience in telecommunications, according to China Mobile's website. Before he was appointed a member of China Mobile's Party group and deputy-general manager in May 2008, he had worked for many years with China Netcom, which was merged into the country's No 2 mobile carrier China Unicom in late 2008 in a government-led restructuring of the country's telecommunications industry.
CETC was founded on March 1, 2002, combining the research capability of dozens of research institutes and high-tech enterprises originally under the direct management of the former Ministry of Information Industry.
