Housing prices in China's 70 large and medium-sized cities increased 11.7 percent in March from a year earlier, according to data released Wednesday by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
Prices of new homes in March rose 14.2 percent year on year; prices of secondhand homes climbed 9.5 percent from the same time last year, according to the NBS.
Haikou, capital city of Hainan, ranked first among major cities in new home price growth, soaring 64.8 percent year on year in March. Sanya, the second-largest city in Hainan, saw its new home prices go up 57.5 percent.
Sanya topped other cities in secondhand home prices, with an increase of 50.4 percent in March year-on-year, and was followed by Haikou, with a 40.4-percent growth, according to the NBS.
