TEHRAN, April 25 - Iran's Oil Minister Masoud Mirkazemi said it is ready to export one million cubic meters of natural gas a day to Switzerland, the local satellite Press TV reported on Sunday.
"We have no problem in exporting natural gas to Switzerland," Iran's Oil Minister Masoud Mirkazemi told reporters on Saturday in Tehran.
Iran's gas export to Switzerland, in accordance with a deal between the two countries, is delayed due to the global financial crisis coupled with recession fall of gas consumption in European countries, the report said.
In February, the managing director of National Iranian Oil Co. (NIOC) Seifollah Jashnsaz also emphasized that "Iran is ready to start its gas exports to this European country based on the contract."
In March 2008, Iran's foreign minister and his Swiss counterpart announced that Tehran and Bern struck an strategic gas contract, which was inked by the National Iranian Gas Export Company and Swiss company EGL, totalled at 13 billion U.S. dollars.
According to the 25-year deal, Iran would deliver 5.5 billion cubic meters of gas to the European country a year, it was aimed at reducing Bern's dependency on Russian gas.
