May 17-A three-storey exhibition pavilion has been completed in Taiwan using 1.5m plastic bottles. The structure was commissioned by three years ago by Far Eastern Group, a local financial and construction conglomerate.
The bottles, which were rescued from Taiwan s waste stream, were converted into interlocking blocks strong enough to withstand earthquakes, according to design contractor Miniwiz Sustainable Energy Development.
The $4.2m temporary exhibition space, known as the EcoARK, features an air conditioning system powered by collected rain water. Its first use will be to host a fashion display, after which its panels will be disassembled ready for relocation.
