May 28-The European Commission has announced a series of fee discounts for small and medium-sized companies making applications to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) under the Classification, Labelling and Packaging regulation (CLP).
The discounts apply to small and medium-sized companies making an application to ECHA for an alternative name for a substance or requesting harmonised classification and labelling. Companies can also use the new alternative name in a number of additional mixtures without paying an extra fee.
Under the new rules, micro enterprises (companies with fewer than 10 employees and turnover of up to ?m) will be eligible for a 90% discount, small companies (those with fewer than 50 employees and a maximum turnover of ?0m) a discount of 60% and medium-sized companies (fewer than 250 employees and turnover up to ?0m) will get a reduction of 30%.
European Commission vice-president Antonio Tajani, Commissioner for Industry and Entrepreneurship, said: Now with significant reductions of up to 90% for smaller companies in the chemical sector we will ensure that they continue to be competitive."
