Borouge to build second compounding plant in China

June 1-Polyolefins supplier Borouge has signed an agreement with the Nansha municipal government in Guangdong province to build its second manufacturing plant in China.

Construction will be completed by mid 2012, giving the plant an annual capacity of 105,000 metric tons of compounded polypropylene, the company said in a 28 May release.

Borouge launched its compounding plant in Shanghai on 20 April. The company is also establishing an application research and development centre in Shanghai as well as an innovation centre at its headquarters in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The Nansha plant will produce tailor-made compounds to nearby customers in the rapidly growing automotive and appliance industries, said William Yau, CEO of Borouge s marketing company. Nansha is a district in Guangzhou, which houses major automakers including Honda and Toyota and their suppliers.

In addition to the upcoming plant, Borouge also operates in Guangzhou an office as well as a logistics hub that can dandle 246,000 metric tons of resins annually.
