Rutland Plastics upgrades EPR infrastructure

May 26-Epicor Software, a developer of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, has sold a system to Rutland Plastics. Its Epicor system will replace the injection moulder s existing aging software and manage the company s 24-hour manufacturing operation.

Rutland Plastics employs 100 people at its Oakham site, with 24-hour operation, five days a week, and an annual turnover of 7.5m. The company currently uses two systems, one for finance and the other developed in the mid-90s to meet its specific manufacturing needs. The replacement Epicor software will replace both these systems, overseeing manufacturing, production planning, quality control, finance, sales and plant maintenance.

Our existing systems were making it very difficult to get the reports and management information that we needed to run the business, and no development had taken place on our manufacturing software for about 15 years, said Steve Ayre, IT manager at Rutland Plastics. Epicor will allow us to create reports as needed, expand the way we use technology, and have a fully integrated IT system with no double entry errors between systems.

Rutland Plastics intends to use the Epicor system not just to replace and consolidate its infrastructure, but to allow the company to begin to use live shop floor data and barcoding technology to track warehouse locations and the movement of products through the site.
