Chemical production in the US was up in the Gulf Coast and Ohio Valley
regions, according to data released by the American Chemistry Council Friday.
Declines were posted in the Northeast, Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, and
West Coast regions.
The Chemical Production Regional Index (CPRI) slipped 0.2% in May,
following a 0.3% drop in April.
Compared to May 2009, total chemical production in all regions was up
4.5%. Regionally, chemical production was up year-over-year in all regions.
Year-to- date comparisons also continue to improve across the board with a
5.9% gain in all regions.
On a global basis, chemical industry production rose in May but the pace
of the gain suggested that the V-shaped recovery (at the global level) was
slowing. Production was up 10.7% year on year.
