Malaysia's biofuels producer World Powerfuel plans to commission its biodiesel refinery next year, to coincide with the start of the country's biodiesel mandate.
The company aims to produce palm methyl ester from its 350,000 t/yr (7,000 b/d) refinery in Port Klang by early next year that also meets standard European specifications, a senior company official said. The plant will also produce glycerine.
Malaysia plans to implement its B5 biodiesel mandate in stages from June next year, after concerns about high costs stalled the fuel blending programme last year. The mandate faced a stumbling block last year as there was no willing party to help absorb the extra costs from palm oil biofuels blending.
