OTTAWA Prices for Canadian factory products and the cost of materials used to make them fell in June, Statistics Canada reported Thursday.
The federal agency s industrial product price index (IPPI) declined 0.9% during the month, led by petroleum and metals.
June s decline followed advances in the previous two months.
Prices for petroleum and coal products fell 2.3%, while primary metal products lost 2.9%. Chemical products were down 1.7%, with lumber and other wood products falling 2.3%.
Meanwhile, the raw materials price index (RMPI) was down 0.3% in June the second straight monthly decline due mainly to lower prices for non-ferrous metals, as well as animals and animal products, Statistics Canada said.
Analysts had expected the IPPI to rise by as much as 0.2% in June, with the RMPI forecast to advance one%.
