Gas prices climbed 2 cents per gallon in San Antonio this past week to $2.55 a gallon due, in part, to higher crude oil prices, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.
The average price for a gallon of unleaded gasoline increased one penny in Texas, from $2.59 to $2.60, while the national average increased from $2.74 to $2.76.
The Texas average is 16 cents below the national average. San Antonio and Houston have the cheapest gas in the state, while the most expense gasoline is in El Paso at $2.75. Gasoline prices increased in Amarillo by four cents the highest jump this past week in Texas.
Crude oil prices have climbed this week above the $80-a-barrel range, up from last week s average of $78 a barrel. It is currently trading at the highest price since the first week of May. Crude prices matched gains over the past week on stocks, driven by renewed optimism about economic recovery.
This one-cent increase in Texas once again shows that, so far, 2010 has been a year of relatively stable prices for motorists, says AAA-Texas spokesman Dan Ronan.
