"TNK-BP is considering investment options for expanding the capacity of Dung Quat oil refinery," the Vietnamese company said in a statement.
PetroVietnam said earlier that it planned to expand the capacity of Dung Quat to 8.5 million mt/year by the end of 2016.
TNK-BP will also look at supplying crude to PetroVietnam or its marketing unit PV Oil, PetroVietnam said.
When contacted by Platts, TNK-BP declined to comment on specific projects.
"TNK-BP is interested in the long-term presence in Vietnam," a spokesman with the company said. "We're discussing possible bilateral cooperation in both upstream and downstream with PetroVietnam."
PetroVietnam said the two companies were also looking into the establishment of a joint venture "in the field of exploration and exploitation."
The issues were discussed during the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two companies in Hanoi on Tuesday, PetroVietnam said.
