China's benchmark Shanghai Composite Index on the Shanghai Stock Exchange closed at 2,898.14 Thursday, down 13.27 points, or 0.46 percent, from the previous close.
The Shenzhen Component Index on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange closed lower Thursday to end at 12,795.68 points, down 33.68 points, or 0.26 percent.
Japan
Tokyo stocks closed Thursday with the key Nikkei Index up 0.01 percent.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 Average edged up 1.51 points to 10,311.29. The broader Topix Index rose 1.42 points, or 0.16 percent, to 903.84.
Australia
The Australian share market has closed slightly higher, after lifting late in trade in a day of low trading volume.
The benchmark S&P/ASX200 Index had inched up 0.33 per cent to 4,784 points, while the broader All Ordinaries Index rose 0.31 per cent to 4,868.8 points.
