China's benchmark Shanghai Composite Index on the Shanghai Stock Exchange closed at 2,911.41 Wednesday, down 15.66 points, or 0.54 percent, from the previous close.
The Shenzhen Component Index on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange closed lower Wednesday to end at 12,829.36 points, down 97.25 points, or 0.75 percent.
Japan
Japanese stocks ended almost flat Wednesday due to a lack of fresh incentives.
The benchmark Nikkei-225 index lost 6.99 points, or 0.07 percent, from Tuesday to 10,309.78.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange eked out a gain of 0.53 point, or 0.06 percent, to 902.42.
Trading volume on the main section decreased to 2,068.89 million shares from Tuesday's 2,386.16 million.
Australia
The Australian share market has closed flat, with financial stocks mixed as the Senate inquiry into banking competition stretches into its third day.
The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index inched up 0.01 per cent to 4,767.8 points, while the broader All Ordinaries index advanced 0.05 per cent to 4,853.4 points.
