China
China's stocks slid for a fifth day Tuesday as market expectations for further rate hikes from the central bank to trim down inflation stayed.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index fell 1.66 percent, or 46.18 points, to finish at 2,735.22 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed down 1.95 percent, or 239.39 points, to end at 12,063.80 points.
Japan
Japan's Nikkei average slipped 0.6 percent on Tuesday as falls in Chinese shares and a slightly firmer yen prompted light profit-taking, but it was supported by strong Japanese output data and healthy technical signals.
The benchmark Nikkei .N225 finished the day down 63.36 points at 10,292.63.
The broader Topix index .TOPX fell 0.2 percent or 1.85 points to 902.83.
Australia
The Australian stock market will reopen tomorrow after the four-day Christmas break.
