p>China's state-owned Tianjin Soda will double the capacity of its oxo-alcohols plant in the Binhai Industrial Area, Tianjin by October 2012, a company source said Tuesday.

Tianjin Soda, a subsidiary of the Tianjin Bohai Petrochemical Group, is currently in the process of bringing on stream the first phase of its oxo-alcohols plant at Tianjin.

The first phase of the plant, with a capacity to produce 140,000 mt/year of 2-ethylhexanol and 85,000 mt/year of iso-butyl alcohol, is currently undergoing test runs. An equal capacity will be added during the second phase of expansion, which is expected to take two years, the company source said.

"That means, two years later we will have the capacity to produce 280,000 mt/year of 2-EH and 170,000 mt/year of IBA," the source said

The company also operates a 500,000 mt/year methanol plant and a 200,000 mt/year acetic acid plant at the same site in Tianjin.

Tianjin Soda's key products are soda ash, ammonium chloride, fertilizers, refined salt, sodium bicarbonate, sodium metasilicate, synthetic ammonia, food grade carbon dioxide and flake calcium chloride.
