China: Sinopec Jiujiang Petchem commences construction of two CFB boilers mid Sep

p>Sinopec commenced construction of two CFB boilers in Jiujiang Petrochemical on Sep 13, revealed a source with the oil major. The project would be completed in 2012, he said.

The two CFB boilers each would have a petcoke or coal consumption capacity of 220mt/hour, the source introduced. The volume was much higher than the petcoke output of the Jiujiang refinery, which was equipped 20kb/d of delayed coker. The refinery was producing about 25,000mt per month at present, according to the source with Sinopec.

However, it would unlikely to slash its petcoke spot supply at short notice once the two CFB boilers would come on stream, he opined. The petcoke produced by the refinery was mainly mid-sulfur grade with 1.5%-2% of sulfur, and it was uneconomical to use such premium grades as fuel for the CFB boilers, the source explained. Thus, the refinery might reserve these products for sale while outsource inferior petcoke grades with higher sulfur content or even coal in the market as fuel instead in the future, he furthered.
