Petcoke sales were well in Shandong independent refineries during the past two weeks. Deals were ample before the National Day Holiday (Oct 1-7), so most refineries were free from inventory pressure thanks to delivery for these orders during the holiday period. When Sinopec marked up petcoke prices in most of its subsidiary refineries on Oct 12, some independent refineries tried to follow Sinopec's price-hike and lifted their petcoke offers. However, ex-refinery prices did not show notable increases as most refineries were worried that higher prices might bring down sales.
Shandong Hengyuan Petrochemical Co Ltd put its 1-mil-mt/yr coker into maintenance on Oct 4. Its coker production would not resume until late October.
Newly started coker in Shandong Jincheng Petrochemical Co Ltd was still yielding sponge petcoke for the time being. Needle petcoke production capacity of the new coker remained uncertain.
Shandong Changyi Petrochemical Co Ltd set to bring its coker back on stream in Oct 15-18. Shandong Haihua Group Co Ltd would restart its coker in near run, but with the specific timetable being unfixed. Shandong Befar Binyang Petrochemical Co Ltd started coker operation for bitumen production. Whether petcoke yield could be expected in near run from the refinery remained uncertain. Zhenghe Group Co Ltd would shut its 1-mil-mt/yr coker for two-week maintenance on Oct 15.
Petcoke outputs in Shandong independent refineries inched down to 9,800mt/d, a survey on Oct 14 found.
A survey included 20 medium to large scale independent refineries in Shandong (excluding three refineries under CNOOC). With 18.8-mil-mt/yr of aggregate petcoke production capacity, these refineries take up 100% of Shandong's total petcoke production capacity.
