India's state-owned ONGC has invited expressions of interest for its massive well mapping and integration program aimed at increasing its oil and gas production, Anil Johri, executive director and head of Ahmedabad assets of ONGC, told Platts on Tuesday.

To begin with, seven fields of Ahmedabad asset had been identified for the program, which will include mapping and integration of wells in ageing onshore oil and gas fields on the west coast, he added.

Nine companies had expressed their interest in joining the program, Johri said. They include Schlumberger, Halliburton, Weatherford, Baker Hughes, Consortium of Oilex-GSPC, Hamex Oilfield Services, Petrogas, Centrum and Trisun Energy. The Adani group initially expressed an interest but backed out later, he added.

The ageing fields identified under the program include Kalol, Nawagam, Nandej, Wasna, Mahlej,Sadraand Halisa fields, he said.

ONGC's onshore fields produce 30% of its total oil production and approximately 25% of its gas output, Johri said. Any improvement in output would result in a substantial rise in gross production of hydrocarbons for the company, he added.

ONGC's total onshore gas production was 5.55 billion cubic meters and crude oil output was 7.6 million mt in fiscal 2009-10. Output is expected to decline further in the coming years making the well integration and mapping inevitable, Johri said.

The program is expected take more than two years to complete and depending on outcome of its success, ONGC might extend it to other fields, Johri said.
