Growth in imports and exports of China's electronic products slowed in September from the same period last year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said Thursday.
The country's exports and imports of electronic products increased by 23.1 percent and 20.2 percent, respectively, year on year in September, according to a statement on the website of the MIIT.
The export and import growth rates, the lowest levels since the beginning of 2010, were 8.5 percentage points and 18.1 percentage points lower than August, respectively, said the MIIT.
From January to September, China's exports and imports of electronic products totalled 724.6 billion U.S. dollars, up 36.2 percent from the previous year and accounted for 33.7 percent of the country's total foreign trade volume, according to the statement.
Imports of electronic products for the first nine months grew 38.3 percent year on year, faster than the growth rate of exports, at 34.7 percent, said the statement.
The MIIT figures also showed that, during the first nine months, China's export of home appliances and communications equipments grew slower by 14.4 percentage points and 12.8 percentage points, respectively, than the average levels of the whole electronic manufacturing sector.
China saw slower growth in electronic exports to the European Union, while exports to the emerging markets increased sharply. Exports to Russia and Brazil rose by 126 percent and 84.7 percent from a year earlier, respectively, said the MIIT.
