As the Earth Hour global movement this year asks people to go beyond turning off their lights for an hour and take actions to protect the environment, principals of more than 40 public welfare organizations from universities and the non-governmental sector in Changsha got together on March 20 at the mobilization of Hunan Volunteers Association, which marks the official launch of the Earth Hour activity in Changsha.
On the afternoon of March 26, public welfare organizations, including the Red Ribbon AIDS Prevention Association and Green Technology Association of Central South University, will send large groups of volunteers to make a vow to Earth Hour and launch the microblog on sustainable environment protection. They will also visit stores and organizations along streets in Changsha city proper, publicize the Earth Hour and mobilize the corresponding authorities to take part in the event. Chiefs of the stores and organizations will be invited to sign agreements to make sure that they will switch off landscape lights and neon lights at 8:30pm that evening to respond to the Earth Hour.
