Two more Canadian soldiers killed in Afghanistan

Two Canadian soldiers were killed in Afghanistan on Wednesday, only three days after a roadside bomb claimed six soldiers' lives in the troubled country, Canadian media reported.

The Canadian military in Afghanistan has confirmed the news, saying three more soldiers were injured in two separate incidents that happened in the same general area, a report by Canadian Television (CTV) said.

"Two Canadian soldiers were killed and two others were injured, one seriously, when a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle in Afghanistan," Col. Mike Cessford, deputy commander of Task Force Afghanistan, told reporters in Kandahar earlier Wednesday. "The incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. Kandahar time approximately 38 km west of Kandahar City. A third soldier received injuries earlier in an unrelated IED (improvised explosive device) strike," he said.

The incident occurred on the same day when the bodies of six Canadian soldiers who were killed Sunday arrived back home. The soldiers lost their lives when their light armored vehicle ran over a roadside bomb 75 km west of Kandahar City.

Canada has 2500 troops stationed in southern Afghanistan. So far a total of 53 soldiers and one diplomat have been killed there since the mission began in 2002.
