Greek first far-right party enters Parliament

The popular Orthodox Alarm party ( LAOS) has become the first far-right group to enter Greece's parliament since the return of democracy in 1974 in the country.
According to the uncompleted reporting of the general elections by 11.00 p.m. Sunday night, the party has surpassed the 3-percent threshold needed for representation in Parliament.
The party leader George Karatzaferis was a former deputy of the ruling conservative party , New Democracy, who was expelled in 2000 for criticizing Greek Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis' aides.
Karatzaferis, who has worked as a journalist and radio producer, has pledged to stop illegal immigration of Albanians and upset Jewish communities of Greece with his rhetoric .
Greek Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis called the snap election six month before the expiry of his term, confident that the government's economic performance would help return him to power.
However, the deadly wildfires in late August in many parts of the country which killed at least 65 people put the government to a severe test and turned many voters to smaller parties.
