Polish President Lech Kaczynski went home from a military hospital yesterday after a brief stay because of high fever and a serious stomach infection.
Kaczynski should be back at work "very soon", a spokesman for the hospital told a news conference earlier.
The TVN24 news channel showed Kaczynski leaving hospital. He departed in a government motorcade, looking pale and with his hair dishevelled.
Kaczynski, 58, was taken to an army hospital in Warsaw earlier in the day after suffering a high fever in the night and general weakness, his doctor, Wojciech Lubinski, said at a news conference broadcast live by TVN24.
A spokeswoman from the presidential office, Aneta Czarnecka, confirmed that the president was being released after his condition had improved, but could give no other details.
Polish media have speculated about Kaczynski's health since he took office in 2005, with medical issues forcing him to cancel some events, but his office has repeatedly denied he had any major health problems.
Poland is expected to hold an election later this year after the president's twin brother, Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski, ended a rocky coalition with two junior parties this summer.
Parliament is scheduled to vote Friday on whether to dissolve itself, which would trigger the early election.
Should that motion not pass, Prime Minister Kaczynski has said he will resign, which would also lead to an early election, though by a more complicated process.
