The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) of the Commonwealth of Independent States is deeply concerned about situation in Iran and Afghanistan, leaders of the organization's member states said Saturday in the Tajik capital of Dushanbe.
In a statement signed during their Dushanbe summit to mark the 15th anniversary of the CSTO, the leaders called for a peaceful solution to the issue of Iran's nuclear program, the Interfax news agency reported.
It also said that reconstruction in Afghanistan is still confronted with multiple difficulties and the war-torn country poses the threats of drugs and terrorism for the international community.
The CSTO is deeply concerned with those threats and called on all related sides to step up cooperation in combating drug production and trade, the document said.
Set up in 1992 to focus on anti-terrorism and counter-narcotics programs, the CSTO groups Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
