The annual Auckland Chinese Lantern Festival opened on the evening of February 6, the National Day of New Zealand. 120,000 out of more than 200,000 overseas Chinese in New Zealand settle down in Auckland. The annual Auckland Lantern Festival celebrates its 10th year in 2009, which is the largest multi-cultural activity organized by the New Zealand government and Auckland City Council. Every year, the organizing committee invites Chinese performers to attend the festival. Zhejiang Wu Opera Troupe and Chengdu Puppet Troupe have been invited this year. Zhejiang Wu Opera Troupe will perform more than ten programs including Wu Opera, mask changing, nine-line picture, golden monkeys celebrating the Spring Festival and Chinese drum.
