From August 5 to August 6, No. 7 typhoon Maria, No.8 typhoon Saomai, and No.9 typhoon Bopha have successively been formed above Pacific Ocean. It s reported yesterday from the Municipal Headquarters of Flood and Draught Prevention that typhoon Saomai and tropical storm Bopha were gradually moving toward the coastal area of southeast China, and Saomai might affect Shaoxing.
Saomai had formed above the ocean near Guam at 20:00 on August 5 and become typhoon at 14:00 on August 7, and its center was above the ocean about 550 kilometers away from southeast Shaoxing with center maximum wind speed of grade 12. It s predicted that the typhoon center would continue to move toward northwest, enter into sea area of East Sea form tonight to tomorrow, and probably land tomorrow on the coastal area of south Zhejiang and north Fujian. Affected by typhoon periphery about tomorrow, Shaoxing will have a visible rainfall period.
It s learned from the Municipal Meteorological Station that typhoon Maris was gradually moving toward the coastal area of south Japan, would not bring about any effect to offing area of China. Zhu Xiaoming, Director of the Municipal Meteorological Station, introduced that as the distance between typhoon Saomai and tropical storm Bopha was about 1000 kilometers, and mutual revolving function existed toward each other, which might form the effect of double typhoon. According to the analysis on typhoon path, Bopha has no effect on Shaoxing primarily. The Municipal Meteorological Station only issued the news of typhoon Saomai yesterday, warning relevant departments to strengthen their awareness of prevention.
It s introduced by experts of the Municipal Headquarters of Flood Prevention that it s a typhoon frequent season currently, and a crucial period for the work on flood and typhoon prevention. According to the analysis of historical experiences, the typhoons landing on the coastal area of Zhejiang and Fujian in August had mostly affect Shaoxing, meanwhile, it s also an astronomical spring tide period. The Municipal Headquarters of Flood Prevention will closely pay attention to typhoon pulse in the light of contingency plan on typhoon prevention, and tangibly do all preparatory works well.
