From Aug. 24 to 27, the Fifth Shanghai International Library Forum was held in Hangzhou Library. Ellen R. Tise, President of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), Zhou Heping, Director of the National Library of China, and Chen Xiaoping, Vice Mayor of Hangzhou made keynote speeches respectively.
The Shanghai International Library Forum started in 2002 and is held every two years. The Fifth forum was co-sponsored by Hangzhou Library and Shanghai Library. This was the first time that the forum was held in a city outside Shanghai. This forum attracted wide participation of experts from over twenty countries like the US, England, Russia, Sweden, Singapore, Japan, Czech, Slovakia and so on.
