The Gabon governmental delegation held a project promotion conference in Wenzhou on September, 16th. It is one of a series of activities of Walking into Africa initiated in Zhejiang.
Gabon, known as the Kingdom of Green Gold , is abundant in forestry resources and is also one of the countries in Africa that enjoy relative social stability. Gabon has a very strong connection with Wenzhou because the father of Jean Ping, former Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Gabon and the present Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union, was originally from Wenzhou. On July, 30th this year, which is also the Gabon National Pavilion Day at Shanghai Expo, Wenzhou signed a contract with Port Gentil, an important port city in Gabon, which made the two cities become Friendship Cities as well as Sister Cities. The Wenzhou Municipal Government is to organize its enterprises to walk into Africa to investigate investment environment and Gabon is one of their key stops.
