From September 23 to 24, the Ninth Session of Overseas Presidents of China Council for the Promotion of Peaceful National Reunification (CCPPR) was held in Zhejiang. Chen Yunlin, President of the Association for Relations across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS), and Si Ta, Vice Minister of United Front Work Department of CPC Central Committee, addressed the meeting, and over 240 people involved and CCPPR presidents from 61 countries and regions were present.
Zhejiang Province and Taiwan lie across the sea from each other, having affinities in geographical locations, people s relations, cultures and customs. Over these years, our province has been conscientiously implementing CPC Central Committee s guidelines on promoting peaceful national reunification, developing exchanges and co-operations with Taiwan, and enhancing intercommunication overseas. Presently, Zhejiang has become one of the provinces in mainland China that maintain the closest tie with Taiwan, and one of the hotspots for communication and personnel visits across the Straits. Our province took the lead in establishing Zhejiang CCPPR in June, 2008.
