Jiaxing, whose transportation capacity is recognized as being developed in advace properly, has invented 2.187 billion yuan in building both its highway and waterway system in the first six months of this year. Jiaxing is to be further established as a hub of transportation in Yangtze Delta by building great harbor, highway system, and logistics.
At present, Jiaxing owns 6203 ships with total deadweight tonnage of 926.189 thousand, 6.026 thousand more than that by the end of last year. With five highways, a total of 337 kilometers and a road density of 8.6 kilometers per 100 square kilometers, Jiaxing ranks the first among the prefectures in Yangtze Delta.
Hence transportation capacity is appropriately ahead of its present need.
Meanwhile, Jiaxing has started its pilot project concerning physical distribution in rural areas. Jiaxing will develop physical distribution in rural areas by encouraging cooperation between transportation and postal services and making full use of the advantages of the two.
It is learned that currently Jiaxing has a total 7412 kilometers of roads, with a road density of 189 kilometer per 100 square kilometers, and a total of 1946 kilometers of graded waterways, with a graded waterway density of 49.7 kilometers per 100 square kilometers. Jiaixing plans to invent 4 billion yuan in transportation infrastructure which will consolidate the foundation of Jiaxing s communication and physical distribution.
