The Guangzhou Asian Games Torch Relay Operation Centre held a test event in Zhongshan, Guangdong Province on Monday (September 20). Over 1,000 police officers provided security support for the rehearsal. The 21 Guangdong cities that will host the Torch Relay sent representatives for observation.
The No. 1 mock torchbearer runs out of the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Park.
The Torch Relay test event kicked off at the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Park at 9am with a launch ceremony. Then the flame, carried by 80 mock torchbearers, went through Boai Lu, Sunwen Lu and Xingzhong Lu and finally reached the Quanmin Jianshen Square (The Square of Fitness for All, literally). Four escort runners also took part.
According to Wang Ruoshi, Chief Director of the Guangzhou Asian Games Torch Relay Operation Centre, his team will hold conferences after the rehearsal to finalise details of each leg and send advance teams to the 21 cities to give guidance.The selection of Zhongshan's 80 torchbearers has entered the final stage.
