About 90 additional trains are to be put into operation on Guangzhou metro lines 1, 2, 3, 5 and 8 to shorten passenger waiting times. Since new lines and extension lines opened this year, waiting time on some lines has been as long as 7.5 minutes, causing congestion during rush hours.
The number of trains running on the metro network exceeds 1,000 since 1997. The 90 new trains shall have 6 carriages each and total investment is estimated at 5.36 billion yuan.
