The cooperation model of Hong Kong as the R&D center and Shenzhen as the manufacturing base is ideal for the two cities, Zhang Laiwu, vice minister of science and technology told a news conference at the 2010 China Hi-Tech Fair yesterday.
The Shenzhen & Hong Kong Innovation Circle, a program launched in 2007 to promote SZ-HK cooperation in innovation and the high-tech industries, exhibited its R&D results and achievements at Hall 9 of Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center.
It is a way to make the most of the R&D strengths of both cities and a platform to demonstrate the achievements, he said.
Eight innovation bases, 12 service platforms and four key projects were started since the circle s launch, said Xie Jianmin, vice chief of the Shenzhen Science, Technology and Information Commission.
RFID (radio frequency identification) and sensor technology, developed by the city s inspection and quarantine bureau and Hong Kong University, was already being used in the real-time inspection and origin tracing system applied to the food supply chain in Hong Kong.
Beijing Genomics Institute (BGI) and the Chinese University of Hong Kong had conducted cutting-edge gene study projects.
DuPont s Solar Energy Photovoltaic Power Project was the highlight of the exhibition, being the first project produced in cooperation between Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
The two city governments have made great efforts in building the circle. The international science and technology domain will see increasing achievements from the two cities, said Wang Rongzhen, chief of the Innovation and Technology Commission of Hong Kong.
