Zhuhai Municipal Government held a press conference in Guangzhou News Center on November 26, 2010 and Mr. He Ningka, Senior Vice Mayor of Zhuhai City briefed the media about the latest development of Hengqin New Area, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and Zhuhai Aviation Industrial Park.
Hengqin New Area
According to Mr. He Ningka, More favorable policies and decision-making power will be granted to the New Area in terms of customs clearance, industrial and IT development, finance and land management.
To date, Macao University Hengqin Campus has been under full construction. Key projects with a total investment of 70 billion RMB have been launched smoothly, including urban utilities, Chimelong International Ocean Resort, Shizimen CBD and the multi-supply gas energy station. Agreements of modern service projects such as Hengqin Headquarters Mansion have been signed and 13 projects with a total investment of over 20 billion RMB are under negotiation, including new energy, cultural and creative ones.
Hengqin Island will give full play to its advantageous location, environment and policies by vigorously developing modern industries with high-end service industry taking the lead, he added.
Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB)
HZMB is due to be completed in six years and will open to traffic by the end of 2016, Mr. He Ningka said. On completion, the Bridge is expected to reduce the travel time between Hong Kong and Zhuhai from over three hours to just half an hour. It will strengthen the economic and social ties between the west bank of Pearl River and Hong Kong and upgrade the development environment of the former.
More strategically, it will improve the overall competitiveness of the Pearl River Delta region, maintain long-term prosperity and stability in Hong Kong and Macao, and promote a coordinated socio-economic development along both west and east bank of the Pearl River.
Zhuhai Aviation Industrial Park
According to Mr. He Ningka, key projects in the Park go on smoothly. For example, the final assembly facility and multi-purpose office building of China Aviation Industry General Aircraft Project have been put into use and the aviation operation has also started. Cirrus General Aircraft FBO Operations and Service Base has been put into operation. South Base Project of CAAC Flight Inspection Center is in the process of examination by Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).
Mr. He Ningka said the 8th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition was successfully held in Zhuhai. These have brought new opportunities to Zhuhai Aviation Industrial Park. The supporting facilities of the Park will be improved and priority will be given to the projects such as aircraft final assembly, components manufacturing and processing, CNC center, aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul, aviation service and logistics, etc.
