The Guangzhou Disabled Persons' Federation (GDPF) announced on December 8 that the city has built 1,130 kilometres of walkways and 5,600 ramps for the blind, installed 1,100 sets of street crossing stereos for the blind, and renovated a significant number of facilities to make them wheelchair accessible, including 35 shopping centres, 44 supermarkets, 57 cultural and memorial buildings, 13 urban parks, 26 sports venues, 1,500 schools, 106 hospitals, 1,100 outdoor public toilets, 30 places of worship and 334 hotels.
According to GDPF's Deputy Director General Fu Die, eight metro lines, 24 coach stations, 74 bus stations, 18 passenger wharfs, 23 passenger ships, Guangzhou New Baiyun Airport and facilities for 58 passenger jets have also be made wheelchair accessible; moreover, a large number of wheelchair accessible vehicles have been put into service, including 961 coaches, 100 vans and taxis, and 750 buses.
