Han Feng, a former tobacco bureau chief who wrote about his sex life in an online diary earlier this year, was sentenced to 13 years in jail for bribery by Nanning Intermediate People's Court yesterday.
The penalties also included a fine of 100,000 yuan, according to a court statement.
The court ruled Han, former head of the sales department of the Tobacco Monopoly Bureau in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, accepted 695,000 yuan (US$10,440) in cash and an apartment from companies contracted to refurbish and construct office buildings for the tobacco bureau during his tenure in Guangxi's Qinzhou and Laibin cities.
Han was arrested soon after details of his diary went online. His diary mentioned the bribes he took, his income, described his life and work, as well as a list of his lovers. The diary spread widely on the Internet and attracted millions of clicks.
A sex diary has also led to another arrest in Guangzhou, capital of the southern Guangdong Province. Police arrested a man for blogging photos and diaries of his paid sex experiences since early November, Guangzhou Daily reported yesterday.
Lin Moulong faces charges of spreading pornographic materials online that resulted in "serious social influences," the newspaper said.
The 22-year-old was identified as a company worker in Shishan Town. His blogs had received 124,000 clicks by the time police tracked him down at the end of November.
