Prof. Huang Tieying Wins HBRChina "Best Research in Chinese Cases" Award

Peking University, Oct. 15, 2010: On its eighth anniversary in Sept. 2010, Harvard Business Review Chinese Edition (HBRChina) honored Huang Tieying, visiting professor of Peking University Guanghua School of Management (PKUGSM), with the "award for the best research in Chinese cases," in recognition of his achievements in recording the progress and innovations of Chinese enterprises through case writing. Meanwhile, Huang was reputed as the most popular Chinese author of the journal.

Prof. Huang s life experiences were legendary. He used to go to the countryside, be an educated youth, and then accountant. Later, he was admitted to Renmin University of China as a graduate student. During his career, he acted as chief administrator of 14 large enterprises in the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, managing their mergers and acquisitions (M&A). After his retirement from business in 2001, he accepted an offer from PKUGSM to be a visiting professor, soon becoming one of its most popular teachers among students.

Prof. Huang started writing Chinese business cases for HBRChina on its first issuance in 2002. He summed up and analyzed the experience of a great many Chinese domestic companies, such as Chaohongji Jewelry, Haidilao Hotpot, and COFCO Tunhe. Readers were deeply impressed, mainly by his individualized style and unique prospective. Moreover, both the industrial circle and the academic field were influenced by his selected publications on HBRChina to list a few "Please Give New CEO a Little Bit More Time," What Kind of Person Can Become a CEO, Six Commandments for M&A in China, and Haidilao Management Intelligence.

At the awarding ceremony, Prof. Huang looked back at the spiritual journey during his writing for HBRChina, and expressed earnest gratitude to his editors co-operating with him behind the scenes.

Adi Ignatius, Editor-in-Chief of HBR (English Edition), presented the award to Prof. Huang. In Ignatius s keynote speech, he spoke highly of the innovative management methods of Chinese enterprises, together with Huang s exceptional recordings of their progress.
