On May 30, the kick-off ceremony of My Lake, My Home West Lake Cleanup Program was held in the sundrenched Wushan Square of Hangzhou in observance of World Environment Day. Co-sponsored by Zhejiang Forte Property Development Ltd. and The Voice of Zhejiang Radio Station, and jointly supported by Zhejiang Provincial Civilization Office, Zhejiang Provincial Environmental Protection Bureau, China Communist Youth League Hangzhou Committee, Hangzhou Municipal Civilization Office, Hangzhou Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau as well as Hangzhou West Lake Scenic Area Regulatory Commission, the event encouraged all residents of Hangzhou to work together and make contributions to the beauty of the city.
Distinguished guests including deputy directors from Provincial and Municipal Environmental Protection Bureaus addressed to the public. Mr. Ye Ming, Deputy Secretary of Hangzhou Municipal Committee also expressed concern on urban environmental protection and made wishes to the construction of a beautiful Hangzhou.
The opening ceremony also included a call for action from Mr. Xue Zhanqian, General Manager of Zhejiang Forte, who urged people living in Hangzhou to protect their lovely home, and pledged to involve the company s full support in environmental protection and urban development. His speech was applauded by the audience.
The program was well-received and thousands of volunteers registered on the opening day. Organized in over one hundred groups led by hosts, editors and journalists from The Voice of Hangzhou Radio Station and dressed in T-shirts printed with My Lake, My Home , the volunteers started cleaning the nine scenery spots around West Lake including Autumn Moon over the Calm Lake, Prince's Bay Park, Su Causeway, Orioles Singing among Willows. Tourists were also invited to participate in the clean-up event.
As advocated by Mr. Xue, caring for our environment is every individual s obligation and responsibility. It requires us to not only behave ourselves but take action to protect our living environment. Zhejiang Forte has been constantly committed to the public welfare of environmental protection since its establishment in Hangzhou. In partnership with Hangzhou Environmental Protection Bureau and Hangzhou Education Bureau respectively, the company has sponsored caring events such as Non-driving Day in a Week and Exam Assistance Scheme . In the latter event, 150 volunteer cab drivers offered free pick-up services to students from less privileged families participating in the National College Entrance Examination.
