The Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMHE, CAS) and Tribhuvan University, Nepal (TU) signed an agreement in Chengdu on March 14, 2011, which initiates a new phase of collaboration between the two sides.
The agreement was signed by IMHE director DENG Wei and Dr. Madhab Prasad Sharma, vice president of TU with the aim to strengthen S&T cooperation and solidify the partnership by supporting personnel exchange, sharing data and conducting joint projects.

The initial cooperation between the two sides was attributed to CAS External Cooperation Program Geo-Surface Processes and Regional Adaptation to Climate Change in Himalaya Region . And the two sides confirmed to sign such an agreement in December, 2010 when DENG paid a visit to the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development located in Nepal.
TU is a public university in Nepal. Established in 1959, TU is the oldest of the five universities in Nepal.A huge number of students, approximately 290,833 from all over Nepal and abroad, make it the biggest university in Nepal and 19th biggest in the world.
