On November 28th, 2009, SMU and Det Norske Veritas signed the Strategic Partnership Agreement and held the unveiling ceremony for the SMU-DNV International Cooperation Center.
Present at the ceremony were Mr. Zhu Jianhua, Deputy Director-General of Shanghai Municipal Transport and Port Authority, Mr. Joerg Beiler, DNV Vice President and Area Chair for Greater China and Mrs. Beiler, Prof. Yu Shicheng, President of SMU, Prof. Jin Yongxing, Vice President of SMU, Prof. Zhenhong, Director of the Shanghai International Shipping Research Institute, staff of SMU and DNV. Prof. Jin Yongxing, Vice President of SMU presided over the ceremony.
Prof. Yu and Mr. Beiler signed on behalf respectively of SMU and DNV on the agreement and veiled the SMU-DNV International Cooperation Center. Afterwards, Prof. Yu conferred to Mr. Beiler the Certificate of Appointment as SMU Visiting Professor. Mr. Beiler gave a lecture on DNV and answered the questions raised by students.
DNV, as one of the leading classification societies in the world, is a independent and non-profit foundation of risk management. Over the past 145 years, DNV has accumulated abundant expertise and experience in maritime technical standards, norms, quality and innovation. According to the Strategic Partnership Agreement signed, SMU and DNV will, through the SMU-DNV International Cooperation Center, further the cooperation in talent training and development, maritime research and development and scholarship to make due contribution to Shanghai international shipping center.
