On Jan 7, SCUT held a conference on trimester system reformation in the First Conference Room. After extensive investigations and sufficient demonstrations, SCUT decided to adopt trimester system from September, 2012. Vice president QIU Xueqing and ZHU Min attended the conference and delivered speeches.
QIU pointed out that the adoption of trimester system could further the reform of college curriculum and optimize the education for undergraduates and graduates, making for a better personnel training pattern. ZHU also emphasized that the reformation of trimester system did not simply mean a change of semester, but a way to intensify the reform of cultivating pattern.

It is learnt that trimester system consists of two longer semesters and a shorter one, which has the same teaching weeks as the original two-semester system. Its advantages lie in that colleges can better cooperate with first-rate overseas educational resources, further implement the comprehensive credit system and enable the instructors to give consideration to both teaching and scientific research. Moreover, colleges can make full use of the shorter term to launch professional trainings and social practice activities.
