Mr. Qiu Chentong (Shing-Tung Yau) has talk with JNU staff and students
Prof. Shing-Tung Yau, famous mathematician, Fields medalist, tenured professor of Harvard University and member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences visited our university on March 25. Prof. Yau was greeted by Prof. Hu Jun, President of the university, followed by a meeting with staff and students from the university.
On the meeting, Prof. Yau shared with the audience his experiences on study. He said that the secret of success was fearlessness of failure and hard-working. No gains could be got without pains , said Prof. Yau. He told the audience that the life condition in Hong Kong from 1950s to 1970s was not as good as it was today, and the only way towards success was study. One should focus himself on study no matter how hard the life was.
Prof. Yau also exchanged ideas with President Hu Jun on the evaluation system of scientific research in Chinese universities and how to promote the academic atmosphere of a university.
