On March 17, during the early spring, all the members of SJTU Ship and Ocean Hydromechanics Lab proudly embarked on HYSY-981, a deepwater semi-submersible drilling platform, anchoring at the Waigaoqiao Dock. As China's first super-deepwater drilling platform, it is the embodiment of the wisdom and painstaking efforts of SJTU researchers.

SJTU Achievement Applied in China s First Super-deepwater Drilling Platform

HYSY-981 is the 6th generation semi-submersible drilling platform, representing the currently highest level of offshore oil drilling platform technology in the world. The built platform will be China's first ultra-deepwater semi-submersible drilling platform designed by ourselves, with the capability of exploration, drilling, completion and workover etc. The maximum operation depth is 3,000m and the drilling depth reaches 10,000m.

Besides, the lab also undertook the measurement of this semi-submersible drilling platform, which was the first time that China carried out sea trial speed measuring of the hydrodynamic force and structural behavior for the semi-submersible drilling platform. So they can obtain the actual performance data to be used as a technical support for further development of semi-submersible drilling platforms. At present, this project is running smoothly.
