President of Yokohama National University Kunio Suzuki Led a Delegation to Visit SJTU

On the morning of November 8th, President of Yokohama National University (YNU) Kunio Suzuki led a delegation to visited SJTU. President Zhang Jie had a cordial meeting with the delegation in Room A407of the New Administration Building, accompanied by Vice President Chen Gang and President Assistant Yan Liangyu.

On behalf of SJTU, President Zhang Jie extended warm welcome to President Kunio Suzuki. He pointed out that China was in a period of fast development in the last 30 years and the economic society boomed especially in the last decade, during which time the improvement of human resources had become an important cause and a general consensus. The continuous development of China's higher education needs to be supported by top quality teachers, which provides an important foundation development space for SJTU-YNU collaboration in talent cultivation. Zhang Jie said that way back to the 20^th century the cooperation between SJTU and YNU was established. Now geared to the further, the better cooperation lies ahead of two universities. President Zhang Jie expressed the hope to strengthen the cooperation in the aspects of talent cultivation, sustainable development, economy and ecology, so as to achieve more fruitful results.

President Kunio Suzuki said that YNU and SJTU had established exchange relations long ago. Exchange of students has always been part of the close cooperative relations between YNU and SJTU. YNU will establish new graduate schools and departments next year. President Suzuki Kunio hoped that YNU and SJTU would further their cooperation in the field of education and scientific research on the basis of existing cooperation, keeping on the tradition and ushering in the future.

It is learnt that during President Suzuki Kunio's visit at SJTU, various campus talks and meetings will be held to enhance academic exchanges with SJTU and attract excellent graduates to their university to study for doctoral degree.

SJTU and YNU have always maintained a good cooperative relationship. At the beginning of 2010, NYU and SJTU signed cooperation agreement and memorandum on "Government-Sponsored Graduate Student Project of National Construction of High Level University", i.e. Yokohama National University PhD Program. This Program will recruit 2 students of SJTU to study for doctoral degree at YNU every year from 2010. In 2010, through this project, SJTU student Cheng Chen from Antai College of Economics and Management received the enrollment notification to study for doctoral degree at YNU for free and got sponsored by China Scholarship. Now he has gone to Japan for study.
