SJTU-Shenzhen Strategic Cooperation Agreement Signed

On the afternoon of March 12, Shenzhen Municipal Committee and Government held the Conference on Tech & Economic Personnel Exchanges at Beijing Diaoyutai State Guesthouse and signed city-university (college) strategic cooperation agreement with eleven institutions including SJTU, Chinese Academy of Sciences, University of Hong Kong and Wuhan University.

Present at the conference were government leaders from Guangdong Province, Shenzhen City, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Education, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Engineering, State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, Intellectual Property Office, etc. as well as persons in charge from over 60 universities, scientific research institutes and enterprises.

They gathered together to witness the signing of the agreement.

Ma Dexiu, Secretary of CPC SJTU Committee, attended the conference and delivered a speech. Executive Vice President Lin Zhongqin signed the strategic cooperation agreement with Shenzhen on behalf of SJTU. Liu Yangang, Dean of Research Institute, signed scientific research cooperation agreements with relevant Shenzhen enterprises, and Ma Lei, Director of Development and Liaison Office, accompanied the attendance. SJTU alumni entrepreneurs in Shenzhen, including Zhao Jianjun, Chairman of TP-LINK Technologies Co., Ltd , Guo Deying, President of Yulong Computer Telecommunication Scientific (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. , Zhang Hao, Chairman of Edan Instruments, Inc., and Zhao Nenghao, Chairman of Shenzhen Mele Digital Technology Ltd., were invited to attend the conference as representatives of Shenzhen entrepreneurs, showing brilliant achievements of SJTU alumni in the development of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone.

SJTU-Shenzhen cooperation has a solid foundation. As the first university to settle at Shenzhen Virtual University Park, SJTU established Shenzhen Research Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2000 and has long offered courses on Master of Engineering, MBA and so on in Shenzhen. Long-term, close cooperation is established between SJTU and many famous enterprises such as Tencent (Shenzhen), ZTE Corporation, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., BYD Company Limited, ShangHai HangSheng Industry Co., Ltd.

The speech made by Secretary Ma Dexiu was widely recognized and positively responded by government leaders and entrepreneurs. In her speech, serving local construction has become an important task for SJTU in its "Twelfth Five-Year Plan". SJTU has the future plan to build SJTU-Shenzhen research institute in Shenzhen and introduce several national laboratories and engineering centers there.

Shenzhen Research Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University will be constructed as an exemplary platform in serving local construction as full participation in the new-round development of Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. Shenzhen, the fertile ground for entrepreneurship, is expected to explore a new way in the cooperative mechanism between industries, universities and research institutes in the nation's new round of reform, so that the plenty of scientific research results made by universities and institutes can be used for benefits of the people and the country.
