Designers are going back to the basics for Spring '09, offering updated twists on classic looks. The recent MAGIC Marketplace, Project Global Trade Show, Pooltradeshow, ENK Vegas and Guild offered new and expanded venues to scout the West Coast's latest trends. With an increase in contemporary offerings at the shows in Las Vegas, there were plenty of fashion-forward options to choose from. The look ranged from classic Americana to electro-clash '80s brights and ethnic styles with a global-chic twist.
Designers are rehashing the past with vintage-inspired skirts and dresses and an emphasis on '80s power dressing. Denim is lightening up from the dark skinny styles of the past couple seasons to clean white, bleached-out, distressed looks and light-blue colorations. Silhouettes offer a fresh perspective, ranging from high waists to super-sized tunics and baggy harem-style pants. Key styles for the season include shorts, rompers, jumpsuits, moto jackets, blazers and pants cropped at the ankle. Dresses continue to be important and come in updated body-conscious silhouettes and exciting new floral and digital prints. Color is key, ranging from sheer icy pastels to electric neon brights. T-shirts find new ground with artsy graphic faces and messages of peace and well-being.
